Sugpiatland is a brand and digital space for our people; it's our ancestral homelands in South Central Alaska, and it is a state of mind.

Sugpiatland exists wherever Sugpiaq people call home, carrying with them our ancestors and the practice of our traditions and values.

Sugpiatland EXISTS TO honor our past, present, and future by sharing our stories, celebrating our culture, and promoting creativity. Our mission is to create a space to explore our traditions and how they intersect with the modern world. We hope to inspire, educate and empower future generations to bring our culture and people into the future.

Sugpiatland encompasses the ancestral lands of the Sugpiat people, spanning across the rugged terrain of Prince William Sound, the Kodiak Archipelago, and sections of BRISTOL BAY and THE Kenai and Alaska peninsulas. Beyond the physical boundaries of these regions, Sugpiatland extends to wherever Sugpiaq people exist, carrying with them the consciousness of their traditions and values.

We have been called Aleut, or as we would say, Alutiiq, but like our land and culture, we are taking our language back. We are Sugpiaq which means "real people."

Our friends at the Alutiiq Museum have done a great job diving further into the name of our people here.
